This course offers a comprehensive introduction to applied heritage skills. It is designed to equip students with both practical knowledge and critical frameworks for engaging with heritage materials and environments.
Structured in three progressive sections—“The Isolated Object,” “The Object in Context,” and “How Do We Read It?”—the course guides students from the tangible aspects of heritage making and conservation through to contextual understanding and interpretative practices.
The historic fabric of St Mary’s Church serves as the central case study throughout the course, offering students a real-world, site-specific lens through which to apply their learning.
To ensure the course remains at the forefront of the sector, content will be reviewed annually in consultation with heritage professionals. This responsive design allows the course to adapt to emerging trends and evolving needs, directly addressing identified skills gaps within the heritage and conservation fields.
